Reviewing our Preliminary

After looking back and watching our preliminary, we realised that we made lots of errors. For example, there were a few mistakes regarding continuity, we did not include a shot reverse shot and we also missed out obvious things to make our clip better.

Therefore, we decided to have a second attempt at this task. We made quite a few changes to our short clip, for example, instead of having a girl as the stalker, we had a boy. We also had to add footage in order for it to have good continuity. Also, as we didn't have a shot-reverse-shot, we included one in the part where there is a conversation between the two girls.

Overall, I think our second attempt at the preliminary task is a lot better than the first as our editing skills had already developed, we definitely made the right decision by deciding to re-film it.

Preliminary Task

To start off our AS Media Studies course, we are asked to do a Preliminary Task.

Before starting the task, I had limited knowledge on editing films on iMovie and I was not very confident with filming using professional recording cameras.

Our brief for the task was to produce a short clip which was approximately one minute long and had good continuity and used a wide range of camera shots. We also had to edit it on the programme iMovie by using various sound effects and camera effects.

To make our clip more interesting, we decided to have a plot. Our clip was about a girl in a school who was being followed but she wasn't aware of it. The stalker rang the victim anonymously and using our editing skills, we made it look like the stalker appeared out of nowhere.

Overall, we did not have any major problems when using iMovie, however, as we do not have lots of experience of using iMovie, we did not know how to do everything on it to make our clip the best it could be regarding editing. However, I think, with time, our iMovie skills will improve and so the standard of our coursework will increase.
